Winter 2026 • By Megan Suttman
now and the not-yet
seasonal rite of preparation
this yearning, inner summer
light of the sun early morning
within each of us
wisdom’s mid-season
ripening
this fullness between seed and
seed
in the mystery between the word of God
and a vast unknowing
is a dance
a profusion of flowering,
a holiness within everything
this week of living
disappearing star, drops of dew
seed-gifts, find me here
sown in the silence
within you
God-planted
as gifts to the world.
During my Residency this past August I thought often of the 12th century Franciscian, Dun Scotus’ concept of Haecciety or this-ness. Haecceity is the notion that God, having complete creative freedom, intends the singularity of each created being as a completely unique reflection of Godself, and an act of perfect love. Much of what came through my work during this week was inspired by the particular way I found God reflected in the land and community of Mount Savor, and the hearts and minds of those in my cohort. This found poem was created in response. ︎
